BUILD Chicago Youth Innovation Conference
June 8 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Sponsored by Strides for Peace, BUILD’s 2019 Youth Innovation Conference will bring together young people who are doing groundbreaking and refreshing work in the arts, social justice, and Community and invites them to share their work in hands-on, interactive workshops.
There are three session formats available for this conference:
Spark (30 minutes) – These are quick, fun, and interactive sessions with key takeaways; a short art project, or team building activity, held at the beginning of the day as an energizer and a way for youth to get acquainted with participants from other organizations.
Working-Group Sessions (60 minutes) – These sessions are interactive hands-on learning experiences and discussions that allow youth to investigate and explore how they can help resolve common community concerns and challenges. With guided advocate support, a youth facilitator will lead the group through a series of large and small breakout discussions that will lead the group through the process of developing an action plan towards solving each problem.
Community Service Project (45 minutes) – This session that all attendees will participate in. Choosing this format asks youth to identify a project that can be executed in 45 minutes. Some project examples are, assembling toiletry kits for shelters/homeless, or food baskets for the food depository or even writing care packages or letters to military soldiers. The possibilities could be endless.
