BUILDing Girls 2 Women (BG2W) and Youth Innovation Conference
Strides for Peace is proud to support BUILDing Girls 2 Women (BG2W), a pilot launched in 2017 to focus exclusively on the highest-risk teen girls who experience the most painful trauma. BG2W combines intensive mentoring from women who have experienced the same challenges with regular counseling with trained professional therapists. A ‘sisters-only’ approach creates safety to tackle tough problems like gang involvement, sexual abuse, financial exploitation, and the physical and emotional damage of violence.
Additionally, sponsored by Strides for Peace, BUILD’s Youth Innovation Conference brings together young people who are doing groundbreaking and refreshing work in the arts, social justice, and Community and invites them to share their work in hands-on, interactive workshops.
Since 1969, BUILD has helped thousands of young people transform their lives, and today reaches over 6,500 youth and families a year with caring adult mentors and a rich variety of experiences in the arts, athletics, college & career preparation, entrepreneurship, leadership development, technology, and mental health programing. BUILD’s model blends the best practices of restorative justice, conflict mediation, prevention, development, and behavioral health, and is designated an evidence-based Effective Program by the US Dept. of Justice.
