Captain Lisa Butner
Special Services, Tufts University Police Department
Detective Captain Lisa Butner serves with the Tufts University Police Department, where she leads Special Services. She began her law enforcement career in 1983 with the Harvard University Police Department and subsequently served with the Metropolitan Police Department and Massachusetts State Police. During her career, she has worked in patrol, sensitive-crimes investigations, narcotics, undercover operations, homicide investigations, training, recruitment, and leadership. In 2019, she became the Massachusetts State Police Cadet Program Coordinator, developing and implementing a program designed to increase diversity within the department. In 2022, she joined Tufts University Police. Captain Butner has also served as President of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) and is President and Co-founder of MSP One Blue. In January 2026, she received the Ralph Avery Leadership Award from the Massachusetts Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators in recognition of her leadership, mentorship, and commitment to community support.
