Garry Mills

Garry Mills is a prominent figure in Philadelphia, known for his outstanding achievements both on and off the basketball court. As a member of Lincoln High School's 30-Year All-Time Team and a First Team All-Public selection, Garry showcased his athletic talent early on, earning honors including the Marksward Award and All-City Honorable Mention.

Beyond athletics, Garry's community contributions mark him as an emerging leader and advocate for positive change. He has been honored as a Wells Fargo Community Leader and received the Sixers "Heroes Among Us" Award. His impact extends beyond Philadelphia: he was named a "Be Modern" Man by Black Enterprise Magazine and one of Philadelphia Business Journal's Top 40 Entrepreneurs Under 40, along with the Verizon/AOL "Good People" award.

In 2022, Garry received the Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for the Golden Heart Award. He went on to receive the We The People Changemaker Own It Award (2023) and the Black Wharton Undergraduate Association Community Award (2024).

Garry founded Shoot Basketballs NOT People (SBNP), a community violence intervention nonprofit that uses basketball to engage youth and provide support to those affected by gun violence. His work is featured in the documentary "Bad Things Happen in Philadelphia," directed by Kyra Knox and executive-produced by Allen Iverson, which follows three teenagers working to overcome the impact of gun violence in their lives. Released in 2023 and available on Amazon Prime Video, the film has drawn critical acclaim, spotlighting Garry and SBNP's role in providing mentorship and hope to Philadelphia's youth.
